Adult Circumcision, Right Here in the Maritimes.
There are a number of reasons why men may choose to get circumcised at an adult age.
Some require circumcision as a cure for conditions like phimosis (an overly tight foreskin) while others choose circumcision for cosmetic and personal reasons. Whatever the reason for your choice to have circumcision later in life, we will be pleased to consult with you and schedule a surgery at your convenience.
With our skin glue closure method, in addition to the standard suture technique, we are able to obtain good cosmetic outcomes without suture track marks in the skin. Adult circumcision procedures in our clinic offer the desired results with minimal discomfort.

Getting Circumcised at Your Age
We are often asked; “Am I too old to get circumcised?” and the answer is pretty much always “no”.
Men and youth of all ages have the surgery in our adult circumcision clinic.
You can also find additional information regarding circumcision for babies on a dedicated page on our site.
The most common age range for adult circumcision is 18 – 40 years old, but the procedure is regularly performed on a much larger age range as requested for medical and personal reasons.
At Gentle Procedures clinics across Canada, we have circumcised men aged from teens to their seventies.
Please contact us today with your inquiry.

Our clinic is focused on circumcision procedures. Our internal processes are organized to deliver high quality of care to men requiring a circumcision.
The details here provide an overview of how your surgery will be performed and what to expect afterwards.
You will receive detailed written instructions for post-surgery care as well as consult one-on-one with Doctor Christie. All your questions and concerns will be addressed before you decide to get circumcised.
Our team is available after surgery as required to answer your questions and to react quickly in the unlikely event that there are any problems. After post-procedural observation you will go home to rest, with quick access to us for any concerns.
Dr. Christie will be reachable anytime in the days following your adult circumcision procedure. You will have his direct personal phone number.
The Surgery
The procedure itself will take about 5 – 10 minutes once the penis has been anaesthetized.
You will be kept for observation for about 1 hour – including a walk to ensure that you feel well and that the dressings are in place.
Follow-up is required the next two days and seven days after the operation for dressing changes and check-up.
Before Adult Circumcision at our Fredericton, NB Clinic
The morning of your circumcision we recommend that you avoid coffee and other caffeinated beverages or stimulants. It is best if you are both physically and mentally calm. Bring your headphones and listen to your favourite relaxing music on your phone or other small music player during the surgery.
Take it easy the night before
Do your best to have a good sleep the night before and follow your normal breakfast routine (except for minimizing coffee) so that you will feel your normal self. Some patients find it stressful to skip coffee and if you are one of those people who really need their coffee in the morning maybe just have one cup.
The goal is to minimize your stress, so have a cup of coffee if skipping it is will cause distress. We recommend that the patient have someone come with them to drive them home as well.

Adult Circumcision FAQ
How long does the procedure take?
Does adult circumcision hurt?
How long does the recovery take?
When can I go back to work after an adult circumcision?
What kind of activities can I do or not do?
When can I have sex or masturbate?
How much pain should I expect during recovery?
Most adult circumcision patients find that there is minimal pain post operatively. Expect some mild discomfort after your procedure for a couple days just like with any surgery, after which there may be some discomfort during the first 2 weeks with nocturnal erections but they are generally mild and relieved with over the counter painkillers.
How long after circumcision will it hurt to have an erection?
After the Procedure
Your penis may swell in the first 2 days. It is generally not very painful, and over-the-counter pain relievers are all you usually need.
You will have a dressing over the head of your penis. Please follow the doctor’s directions about when to remove it. Wear snug fitting underwear that will hold the penis upright. This will help the swelling go down.
You can return to work and your normal routine when you feel ready to. Some men return to sedentary work as soon as 2 – 3 days after circumcision. You will need to wait longer before returning to physical work.
A detailed care sheet will be provided with specific instructions to follow after your operation. The information on this page gives you a general idea about how long it will take for you to recover, but each person recovers at a different pace. Follow the care instructions to heal as fast as possible.
Dr. Christie will address your specific case and your detailed questions.
Post Circumcision Activity & Care
Rest when you feel tired. Getting enough sleep will help you recover fast. You may shower when you no longer have a bandage on your penis. Pat the cut (incision) dry. You may also take short baths if you wish.
Avoid strenuous activities, such as bicycle riding, jogging, weight lifting, or aerobic exercise, for 4 weeks or until your doctor says it is okay. You can return to work and normal activities, including driving, when you are comfortable doing them.
What to eat after circumcision as an adult.
You can eat your normal diet. If your stomach is upset, try bland, low-fat foods like plain rice, broiled chicken, toast, and yogurt. Drink plenty of fluids (unless your doctor tells you not to). There is no medical reason to change from your usual meals in the days after getting circumcised. You will likely prefer to eat at home at least for the first day or two to maximize your comfort.
Incision care
Remove any dressing when your doctor says it is okay. Do this by soaking it off in a warm bath. Wear underwear that is comfortable for you. After the first few days, some men continue to prefer a snug fit for support, while others prefer loose-fitting briefs. Do what feels best for you.
Ice and elevation
Put ice or a cold pack on your groin for 10 to 20 minutes at a time. Try to do this every 1 to 2 hours for the first day. Put a thin cloth between the ice and your skin. Position your penis so that your underwear keeps it upright.
Sex After Circumcision
Do not have intercourse or masturbate for 6 weeks, or until your doctor says it is okay. An occasional erection is not harmful as long as you leave it alone. Do not stimulate the penis.
Medications After Circumcision
Your doctor will tell you if and when you can restart your medications. He will also give you instructions about taking any new medications.
If you take blood thinners, such as warfarin (Coumadin), clopidogrel (Plavix), or aspirin, be sure to talk to your doctor. He or she will tell you if and when to start taking those medications again. Make sure that you understand exactly what your doctor wants you to do.
Take pain medications exactly as directed. If the doctor gave you a prescription medication for pain, take it as prescribed. If you are not taking a prescription pain medication, ask your doctor if you can take an over-the-counter medication.
Do not take two or more pain medications at the same time unless the doctor told you to. Many pain medicines have acetaminophen, which is Tylenol. Too much acetaminophen (Tylenol) can be harmful.
If you think your pain medicine is making you sick to your stomach:
- Take your medicine after meals (unless your doctor has told you not to).
- Ask your doctor for a different pain medicine.
